Purpose:  During an incident which is deemed a medical emergency University personnel are required to contact Public Safety. In cases where St. Catherine faculty and staff are not present, students are strongly encouraged to also contact Public Safety. Once Public Safety is contacted, emergency services may be contacted to perform a medical evaluation. Staff will defer to emergency personnel as to whether the individual is recommended to be transported to a hospital. All University personnel are expected to abide by this process.

Students with Medical Conditions

Students, especially those with chronic medical conditions, are encouraged to wear a medical ID (e.g., bracelet, necklace, etc.) and to enter their medical diagnoses, medical history, and other pertinent information into their smartphones.  On the iPhone, this is done via the Health app by updating the user’s Med ID.

Students, faculty and staff are all strongly encouraged to upload the LiveSafe app onto their mobile devices.  Included in the app is a feature that enables individuals to call for emergency help via 911 or by contacting campus security (via phone or text). One of the added benefits to calling Public Safety through the LiveSafe app is the location tracking feature, which uses a Smartphone’s GPS to allow campus security to locate an individual’s location.

Resident Students

Resident students should visit their My Housing portal to update their emergency contact information and are encouraged to inform their Resident Adviser (RA) of any chronic medical conditions that could result in a medical emergency.
