CORE 1000W The Reflective Woman — 4 credits

The Reflective Woman (TRW) is a class that has been taught at St. Kate’s for over 30 years and was created to center the women’s mission of the university. TRW has evolved into a discussion-based course designed to explore leadership guided by the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, reflection on our own identities, and an understanding of intersectionality. Class topics explore leadership, racism, and intersecting oppressions and further the development of information literacy, reading, and writing skills. Offered in the College for Women and the College for Adults.

CORE 3990W Global Search for Justice — 4 credits

Global Search for Justice (GSJ) was designed 30 years ago as a capstone experience for St. Kate’s students to examine issues of justice experienced by peoples who have been historically and currently marginalized nationally or globally. GSJ still focuses on a particular social justice issue in a global perspective, but has evolved into an experience-based course that builds on the leadership lessons learned in TRW. Students will engage in a semester-long community-engaged learning project, global learning experience, or a research experience that will allow them to practice leadership through a lens of Catholic Social Teaching. Several versions of Global Search for Justice are offered each term, each focusing on a different aspect of justice. Recent sections include: The Immigrant Experience, Environmental Justice, Women and Work, Language and Social Justice, Disability Justice, Women’s Health Issues, and Dismantling Racism. Offered in the College for Women and the College for Adults.
Prerequisites: CORE 1000W. Students will be eligible to take GSJ once they have completed 6 of their 8 core requirements.
